Volunteer for The Devonshire Collective

The Devonshire Collective is a creative and cultural hub in Devonshire Ward, Eastbourne with studios, makerspaces, workshops, gallery, shop and café for the benefit of artists, community members and the wider public.

Volunteers are a key part of supporting DC’s ability to act as a cultural hub in Eastbourne. We are looking to bring volunteers onto the vibrant team to help offer our members and the wider public even better services and facilities!

Our volunteers have a range of skills and help us in a wide array of activities. We are looking for volunteers who could help with the following roles:

Café and Shop Visitor Assistant

This opportunity is based at DC1, a gallery with in-house shop and cafe. Opening hours 11am-5pm Tuesday – Saturday.

Main Duties could include:

  • Serving/waiting on customers, e.g. making hot drinks and simple items from the menu (minimal to no cooking required), cash handling,
  • Arranging shop display
  • Offering visitors conversation about current/future exhibitions/workshops
  • General cleaning duties
  • Assisting in day-to-day front of house tasks

There is no need for previous café/waiting experience as we can offer all necessary training.

For this role it would be preferable if you could commit to a 3-6 hour shift.

Events Assistant:

This opportunity will be varied according to the event that is taking place and the time of day.

Main Duties could include:

  • Serving hot/cold drinks to customers, handling cash
  • Event set up/close down
  • Taking part in event with visitors
  • General cleaning duties

Technician/General Handy-man:

Main Duties could include:

  • Set up electrical equipment for events
  • Help with exhibition installations/take downs where necessary
  • General handy and technical job

Exhibition Invigilators:

This opportunity is based at DC1, a gallery with in-house shop and cafe. Opening hours 11am-5pm Tuesday – Saturday.

Main Duties could include:

  • Act as a front of house team member, monitoring the gallery and following gallery rules and regulations
  • Engage visitors in discussion about the works
  • Assist in hands-on elements of exhibitions

Marketing:

Duties could include any of the following (according to volunteer):

  • Posting on our social media accounts
  • Create new material for our website
  • Design posters/flyers
  • Flyering

Digital media team

We are also looking for photographers, filmmakers and social media lovers to join our volunteer DC Media team over the weekender. You will be working alongside a fun team from a wide range of backgrounds to help document the weekend. You will get free access to all events, plus a sandwich lunch provided.

Invigilators

We are looking for volunteers year-round to help invigilate upcoming exhibitions at DC1 Cafe & Gallery.

We can provide training and a great environment to volunteer in, surrounded by a vibrant artist community and access to arts opportunities.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am-5pm. Ideally you are able to help 3-6 hours. You will get lunch and training provided.
