Larry Achiampong & David Blandy – Curators/Artists

Across Devonshire Collectives spaces will be a programme of performances, talks and an exhibition that look at identity, race and our relationship to the digital, investigating the possibilities offered by Afro-futurism, cybernetics, virtuality and the ideas of the trans and post-human. The programme will incorporate contemporary music making, video games and graphic novel making.

Come and play a new tabletop roleplaying fantasy game in the style of

Dungeons & Dragons with artist David Blandy.

The game is based in an alternate future of multiple diverse societies,

where magic is real.

Come and play a special introductory adventure.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any experience in roleplaying games,

the group is open to anyone who is interested from age 10 to Adults …

£5 Non DC Members, £3 for DC Members and the families per tickets – for as many sessions as you like

Screening and talk where Larry Achiampong and David Blandy discuss their collaborative practice and show a selection of their short films that look at race, history, Grand Theft Auto and the legacy of Frantz Fanon.

Wumi ‘Wumzum’ Olaosebikan, illustrator, muralist and animator, will work with 10-16 year olds to create comic book avatars and stories for an imagined future

A walk-in Videogame Tournament. Videogames are at the forefront of contemporaries culture of adopting avatars and alter egos, inspiring cosplay, fanart and forging fervent offline communities. The tournament will be taking  the “winner stays on” format, most wins gains free entry to the performance event.  [Smash/Streetfighter?]

Presenting their performance “Media Minerals”, a live embodiment of their Finding Fanon series. A poetic blend of sublime imagery, a rich symphonic synth based soundtrack, and an intimate script blending persona testimony and the histories of race and violence.

In Larry Achiampong & David Blandy’s collaborative practice, they share an interest in popular culture and the post-colonial position. Over the past five years they have examined communal and personal heritage, using performance to investigate the self as a fiction, devising alter-egos to point at their divided selves.

Larry Achiampong & David Blandy’s work has been shown both within the UK and abroad including Tate Modern, London; The Baltic, Gateshead; Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefied; FACT, Liverpool; BFI London Film Festival, London; Transmediale Festival, Berlin, Germany & Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, Texas, USA. They have been on residencies at Praksis, Oslo in Norway & Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridgeshire. Recent awards include an Elephant Trust award and support from Arts Council England, and they have been shortlisted for this year’s Film London Jarman Award. Larry Achiampong is represented by Copperfield Gallery, London & David Blandy is represented by Seventeen Gallery, London.
