When was the last time you picked up a local travel guide, showing you the best that Eastbourne has to offer for both residents and visitors?  When was the last time you picked up a guide such as this, but written solely by local children?

Little Green Pig is a Sussex-wide charity, offering free writing programmes for children and young people.  In the last six months, our team of writing mentors has worked closely with a group of young people in two Eastbourne schools to create Eastbourne’s very first travel guide written completely by, and for other young people visiting the seaside town.

The Coolest Town on the Sunshine Coast travel guideis free, and will be available to pick up in public places including Eastbourne library and the Devonshire Collective cafe (on Seaside Road) from mid February. Within its pages, you’ll be able to read many short articles written by children between the ages of 7-11, showcasing the areas they live and play in, from Princes Park to Pevensey beach.  It includes where they like to shop, eat, play sports and about other attractions you may not have heard of (from messages written on secret stones, to a place called the ‘Pup station’!)

Something special happens when you pick up a pen, and an idea comes to life.   Creating writing spaces that are safe, foster freethinking and innovative thought, for young people in Eastbourne and Sussex, are at the heart of Little Green Pig’s mission.

All in all, the guide is a delightful read and keepsake that illustrates the beautiful and the bizarre things that make Eastbourne a very special place to live. We hope you can get a copy, and let the children of the town guide you to places you may never have been before.
