Funding success for new Threshold Programme
Thanks to £70,000 in funding from Arts Council England and Devonshire West Big Local, in October 2017 we are launching an ambitious 16-month arts programme called Threshold. Threshold will provide an exciting performance and visual arts programme, deliver events and workshops for the growing number of artists living and working locally, and a new series of artist commissions to animate the town.
The funding has come as a result of our hard work in responding to the needs of residents and local creative community. To date we have supported over 100 artists – 56 are now members – helping them to raise over £15,000 for community projects.
Just a few projects we’ve helped secure funding for include this summer’s awesome Animazing Children’s TV exhibition at DC1 Cafe & Gallery and last Sunday’s inspiring Seaside Steam Press printmaking event outside DC2.
This October sees our first anniversary as a new Company Interest Company and to date we’ve had over 2,500 people get involved with our activities as audience, visitor or participant so we are thrilled to have another reason to celebrate.
Our first Threshold Guest Curators are Aoi Nakamura and Esteban Fourmi, who run Ashford-based dance company AΦE. They plan to show work by London-Berlin based Ana Rajcevic. The show will run Sat 21 October – Sun 12 November, with a Curator Talk and Private View on Sat 21 October.
Aoi and Esteban are also curating our first Devonshire Digital Weekender, which will run 25-26 November 2017. This will be a weekend of art and digital culture, including live performance, workshops and community participation. They are looking for a proposal from artists, makers, designers, architects, musicians, performers for digital work to be included in the weekend. There is a £500 fee for the successful proposal.
To hear more about Threshold Programme, the DC team and project partners will be sharing highlights about the programme at the September DC Members’ meeting on Tues 19 September, 5.30-7.30pm at DC1 Cafe & Gallery. Non members are welcome, we suggest a £3 donation for attending. There will be a lot of opportunities for artists in Eastbourne, Sussex and the South East to get involved.
