In an exhibition catalogue of 1977, the artist, Eduardo Paolozzi, compared life with that of the symbolic act of making collage. As a lens based artist, experimental poet and walker, I am interested in processes of appropriation and manipulation and how ‘found’ images or texts can contribute to new and re-invented forms, in particular to that of zines and photo zines. As tactile objects of independent creative expression, zines are the natural home where processes of DIY re-invention can grow and develop. Walking, whether in rural or urban spaces, is often open, in psychogeographical terms, to the idea of the collage equivalent of the ‘interrupted view’ and I see this as another element and addition to re-inventing the world, whether through a lens or in a zine.
